The Management of Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta has denied the news making the rounds that Nurses at the Centre are wearing polythene bags to treat a purported Covid- 19 patient.
An on-line medium, Politics Nigeria had in it’s Monday edition make a spurious, malicious and unfounded assertion that Nurses in the Centre were wearing polythene bags to treat suspected Covid -19 patients.
To set the records straight, our internal Investigation revealed a group of nurses who were involved in transferring some patients in the ward.
What they are wearing are disposable aprons which come in different colors nowadays.
They are usually worn before the long sleeve gowns are donned as a further layer of protection from soilages and spillages. They may also be used during short procedures to prevent soiling their uniforms.
I wish to state emphatically that as at this moment there is no patient in any ward suspected of Covid-19 .
Certainly not even in the ward mentioned by paper because such patients are managed in the isolation ward.
The Management has therefore urged the media practitioners to endeavour to cross check their information before publication.
The times we are calls for restraint and extra caution by the media to adhere at all times to the ethics of the profession which cherishes truth, balanced reporting and responsible journalism.
