Plaster Unit Celebrates World Orthopaedic Cast Technician and Technologists Day 2025.
Friday, 22nd August 2025.
The Plaster Unit of the Department of Orthopaedic and Traumatology at Federal Medical Centre Idi-aba Abeokuta is marking World Orthopaedic Cast Technician and Technologists Day 2025 with a series of activities aimed at sensitizing the public on the importance of seeking professional medical care for bone-related issues, including fractures, deformities, and disabilities requiring orthopaedic interventions.
The celebration kicks off with an awareness rally around town, emphasizing the need for the public to bring cases involving fractures, deformities, disabilities, or other musculoskeletal trauma to the hospital for proper medical attention from orthopaedic professionals.
This campaign aims to discourage the use of traditional or non-medical methods of treatment that could lead to complications such as amputation, malunion, or nonunion of fractures.
Assistant Chief Plaster Technician of the Plaster Unit, Oluwabunmi Alice, urged stakeholders in the community to seek professional orthopaedic care for all bone-related issues. She also assured that members of the department are ready to provide high-quality medical care for patients utilizing evidence-based orthopaedic techniques and plaster cast immobilization methods for the management of fractures and other orthopaedic conditions.
Other activities for the celebration of World Orthopaedic Cast Technician and Technologists Day that falls on Sunday, August 24, 2025 rolled out by Adigun include:
– A technical lecture on Monday to celebrate World Cast Day, focusing on best practices in orthopaedic casting and management of musculoskeletal injuries and
– Gifts presentation for inpatients receiving orthopaedic care.
