BRIEF HISTORY OF WORKS AND MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT
The Works and Maintenance Department is as old as the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta since the inception of the hospital in 1993. The Department was headed by Engr. Odurombi Siji as the pioneer Head of department between 1993 and 2001. He was succeeded by Engr. Owolabi Olusola Johnson from 2001-2021.
Bldr. Adeyemi Justina Obehi, the Acting HOD Works and Maintenance took over the headship of the Department from Engr. Owolabi Olushola Johnson on 2 nd June, 2021. The department is saddled with the responsibility of maintaining hospital facilities, infrastructures and rendering other needed allied services to the hospital.
The department is made up of 175 staff members out of which 89 are senior staff and 86 junior staff respectively. The department have several professionals in the built environment namely: Mechanical Engineers, Civil Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Land Surveyors, Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Architects, Builders and Town planners.
The services provided by the department includes Engineering and Technical support services for the clinical work, maintenance of hospital equipment, buildings and land-scaping.
PROFILE OF BLDR. (MRS) ADEYEMI JUSTINA OBEHI (HOD, WORKS & MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT)
Bldr. (Mrs.) Adeyemi Justina Obehi is the current Head of Works & Maintenance Department of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, succeeding the former and immediate past Head of Works & Maintenance as the
second HOD of Works & Maintenance since the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre.
Bldr. (Mrs.) Adeyemi Justina Obehi had her primary and secondary education at St. Michael’s Girls Nursery & Primary School, Aba, Abia State and Zik Grammer School Sapele, in the then Old Bendel State respectively. She started her higher education from the famous Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State graduating with an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Quantity Survey in 1989. In her quest for a career in the built-
environment, she proceeded to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to study Building Science in the Faculty of Environmental Design. She graduated from the Department of Building Science of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with a Bachelor of Science in Building Science (B.Sc) on 26 th May, 1994.
In zeal to be of service to her country Nigeria, she observed her mandatory one-year National Youth Service Scheme at Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri, Borno State between 30 th May, 1994 and 29 th May, 1995. Little did she know that she will be embarking on a long service for her mother land; fate saw her employed to the service of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta on 3 rd May, 1996 to the post of Civil Engineer Grade II (Building). She rose through the ranks in service and on 1 st January, 2021 was promoted to the rank of Deputy Director of Works & Maintenance.
Bldr. (Mrs.) Adeyemi Justina Obehi is a family person. She is married to Mr. Samuel Olusegun Adeyemi and the union is blessed with two lovely children.
